Glenroy’s Hope Centre Playground.
A NEW playground has opened at a Glenroy church, and you’re invited to slide on in. Hope Centre, on Station St, officially has opened its $45,000 playground, which will be open to the public during office hours.
Senior pastor David Nair said the church received $32,000 from Moreland Council for the ‘Caterpillars’ playground, which it hoped would become a community asset.
“We are trying to build a culture that there’s no catch in this — we are just trying to make our community a better place to live in,” Mr Nair said.
“I have been here four years as the pastor of the church and I am trying to turn this place into a community hub, rather than just on Sunday morning.”
The playground includes a boat that has been converted into a sandpit, a pergola that links to the church kitchen and play equipment, including a slide. The area is fenced off so parents can grab something to eat or have a cuppa in the kitchen while keeping an eye on their children at play. The church also has a toddler room inside for when poor weather strikes.
The Hope Centre’s Caterpillars playground is at 93-95 Station Rd, Glenroy. It will be accessible during the church’s open hours; 10am to 3pm from Tuesday to Friday.
