Farms to Families.
Foodbank Victoria in conjunction with South West Community Services supplied fresh produce to over 100 Wyndham families as part of the Farms to Families program that helps members of their communities who are doing it tough.
With one in 10 Victorians not knowing where their next meal is coming from, Foodbank’s Farms to Families program helps to ensure that fresh fruit and vegetables are delivered to those who need it most.
“With the introduction of the Farms to Families program, Foodbank Victoria and South West Community Services are able to ensure that foods of high nutritional value are delivered to the most disadvantaged people in our community on a more frequent and consistent basis,” said South West Community Services spokesperson Carly Alexander.
“Today we saw over 100 families who are experiencing financial difficulties. It’s been fantastic to be able to help so many families in Wyndham who are relying on these kinds of services every week just to get by,” said Ms Alexander.
The families were invited through churches, local schools and welfare agencies. Volunteers from South West Christian Church and Holden loaded up shopping bags and also put on a free BBQ for everyone who came through which was sponsored by COD World Missions.
“We want to thank all our volunteers from South West Christian Church and Holden without whom these programs to serve our community would not be possible.”
“Our thanks also go to the Campbell Edwards Trust who helped to fund this market in Hoppers Crossing.”
Farm to Families gives people access to fresh and nutritious food in a meaningful and non-threatening way that maintains dignity and fosters connectivity with their community.
South West Community Services is the community care arm of South West Christian Church, which also runs four Lighthouse Op shop stores in the Western Suburbs of Victoria.
