It’s not often you hear the words “free” and “petrol” used in the same sentence – but that’s exactly what happened at BP Stop and Go on Goonoo Goonoo Road in Tamworth.
Northwest Church gave away $20 worth of free fuel to the first 100 cars on Saturday, October 31, “no strings attached.”
Pastors Bron and Darren Bonnell said the initiative was just another way for the church to say “we love this city.”
“A friend of ours who is a pastor in America did it to bless their community and we thought it was a fantastic idea,” Ms Bonnell said.
“Fuel is one of the bills that is hard to avoid in rural areas. We hope this helps some people through their week a little easier. We are trying to change perceptions around what a church is. It’s more than just a building. It’s people getting out there in the community. We are a church in the city, but we are more than that. We are a church for the city, so we wanted to do something really practical for people in our community.”
The church is aiming to have another fuel giveaway around Christmas.
