A few years ago our church started a bread run as part of a off shoot from a ministry run by Mount Pleasant Baptist.
This ministry sees volunteers collect leftover bread from bakeries at the end of the day and deliver it to homes in need in the local area.
It has really helped us develop relationships with people in our community and help fulfill a need. We have had opportunities to pray with our families, offer other assistance when required – such as meals when one family member was undergoing an operation and deliver Christmas hampers.
From this ministry, we have felt recently to start a community dinner, run once a fortnight. This was seen as another method to get to know our community while also fulfilling a physical need.
This is still in its early days but we have been encouraged by the positive response so far.
